While working at our latest flip house, I kept wondering how I could stage the space under the barn lights (see picture below). And then, one day while I was cleaning out my garage, it hit me. I could make little clipboards like I had seen a friend make on Instagram. I have tons of scrap wood in our garage leftover from miscellaneous projects, so I rummaged through my stash until I found three 8″ pine boards, and then cut them all the same length. Once I had three boards cut the same size, I sanded, stained, and sealed them with a polycrylic. On my last two projects, I’ve used a mixture of one part of dark walnut to two parts of classic gray. After cutting, sanding, staining and sealing the boards, the only thing left to do is add the bulldog clips.
I found these bulldog clips here.
Then, it’s just a matter of choosing where you’d like your clip to go, drilling a small pilot hole, and then drilling in your screw. It’s important to find a screw with a big enough head that won’t go through the hole on the bulldog clip. I used these, and I found them at Lowe’s.
I’ve been trying my hand at watercolors lately, so I painted some watercolor feathers for the bulldog clips to hold. I found my watercolors here and the watercolor paper here. Obviously, you can hang whatever you’d like from your clips. I should mention the ones I bought are extremely heavy duty and have a very strong grip. I definitely recommend.
There are many different possibilities with this project. I think a more rustic board would look fantastic with these clips-or change the clips up completely. My inspiration girl used a clip she found from Hobby Lobby and it was adorable. I hope this inspires you to try to make one of your own. I’m confident you’ll love the end result.

GIVEAWAY ALERT!! I am clearing stuff out of our current home renovation–and these clipboards need to find a new home. Do you want them? Simply leave a comment saying, “I want them” on this post (not on Facebook because I can’t see all of those comments). The only catch is you must be willing to pick them up in Fredericktown, Ohio because I don’t want to ship them. My sister-in-law already claimed the feather prints, so those aren’t included with the clipboards:)
Thanks for reading!
*****UPDATE*****Heidi won the clipboards. Thanks to everyone who played!
